(Beyond Fashion Magazine): What are the most popular interior design trends right now?
(Lori): “Design for me has never been about following trends. It’s about releasing unbridled artistic expression in my own lane and creating magic. During my 30 plus years in business, I have always approached each project with new excitement, eager to transform our clients’ personal visions into living and breathing works of art. My designs infuse love and respect for classic architecture and traditional design, which inspires my signature style. This means a new take on timelessness each and every time with a twist — just because I said so.“
What’s your approach to design and how do you make it special?
“My approach is simple: no rules. It’s what fuels the freedom to design and gives the bandwidth to create something entirely unique. I like to push the envelope and fearlessly pursue new variations of high style, function and comfort. I have never held myself to the work of other designers, but instead carved my own path with clear delivery of the unexpected.“
What are some of your favorite styles when decorating a place?
“My favourite style is a mixed aesthetic, channelling sumptuous luxury and layering it with a variety of gorgeous glam and rock star edge.“
What would be your dream project?
“Each project is a dream. I have been very fortunate to work with many incredible clients who trust me to create their dream while I’m living my own.”
If someone wants to change their interior design, what would you recommend they invest in?
“It’s possible to elevate your interior design without a full overhaul by boldly layering different textures, materials and colors to create depth. I recommend investing in high-quality furniture like a luxurious dining table, sofa or coffee table, that will last a lifetime. Incorporating accessories and accent pieces such as carpeting, seating, lighting and artwork can also be completely transformational. This is why I am currently working on an upcoming e-commerce line which will feature a piece of Lori Morris Design for all – from one-of-a-kind, custom furniture, as well as a selection of my favorite accessories from other brands.“
What are the main things one needs to focus on when buying a new place?
When purchasing a home, pay attention to the architecture, the landscape and, most importantly, the space and its restrictions that could potentially impact any renovations, additions or other modifications required to make the space function for you and your family.
