YouTuber And Influencer Adelaine Morin: “Work Smarter, Not Harder”

Entrepreneur, YouTuber, influencer, and just a real badass businesswoman, Adelaine Morin is taking the world by storm. With her colourful looks and magnetic personality, everything this woman does is exciting to watch. And to help you get to know Adelaine better, we’ve asked her a few vital questions.

(Beyond Fashion Magazine): Since you started your YouTube channel, what’s the most exciting thing that has happened to you?

(Adelaine): I had no idea that posting my first video to YouTube would change my life. Since I started, so many exciting opportunities have presented themselves like trips to Costa Rica, New York VMA’s, Australia, Bora Bora, moving to Los Angeles, meeting celebrities like Selena Gomez, going to award shows, being displayed in stores, etc., but I think the most exciting opportunity I’ve had was my palette collaboration with Tarte Cosmetics. It was a palette one year in the making, we threw a huge Los Angeles party where all the biggest influencers attended, I produced my first song and music video, I held a meet and greet at Ulta where over 250+ fans came to say hi, my palette was sold in Ulta stores and it was a huge success. I’m so grateful for that experience and hope to learn and grow from it as well. Lots of exciting things coming in the future!

How did you discover your passion for makeup?

I first discovered my love and passion for makeup during grade 5 for my school musical productions. Every year, my class would throw a huge production whether it be Hairspray, Beauty and the Beast, Alice in Wonderland, Camp Rock, and we’d apply heavy stage makeup. Since then I started playing with makeup on my own, watching makeup tutorials by Bethany Mota and Blaire Fowler (If you’re an OG YouTube viewer, you know), and eventually attended a Beauty College based in Toronto where I got my certification in makeup, skincare and hair. I always hated school and would never get the best grades, but there’s something so different about learning something you’re genuinely passionate about. It came so easy to me. I guess you can call me a certified makeup artist now.

Who inspires you the most in your life and career?

My biggest inspiration in my life currently has got to be Kylie Jenner. And I know what you’re thinking. Of course, Kylie, the Instagram baddie. I think of her as more than that. She’s a genius businesswoman that has multiple sources of income. Not only does she have income from her hit show, Keeping up with the Kardashians, she has Kylie Cosmetics, Kylie Skincare, her clothing line with Kendall, she invests in properties and so much more. I admire a woman that makes running a business look so easy. On top of that, she has her daughter, Stormi. I strive to start my own business from the ground up and successfully be a public figure/role model to young girls. I’m actually in the process of pitching my next company (Other than Girls Supporting Girls) but you didn’t hear that from me.

What are your goals for the next 5 years?

If you asked me this question one year ago today, I would have said to have x amount of subscribers and x amount of dollars in my bank account. But I’ve changed so much over the past year. Over the next 5 years, I want to focus on me. I want to be genuinely happy in myself and what I focus my efforts on. I used to rely on the approval of others- Still kinda do, I’m not perfect- to feel fulfilled and productive in life, when that’s not a way for me to live. I want to spend time and make memories with my friends and family, create my business I’m genuinely so passionate about, and help others along the way because that makes me feel like I have a purpose in life. It took me a while to realize that money, numbers and power do not equal success. I’m so happy with where I’m at now, and if I can stay true to myself and focus on what genuinely makes me feel fulfilled within the next 5 years, that will make me happy.

Could you tell us a secret that nobody knows about you?

A secret that nobody knows about me is that my frenchie, Blue, cuddles with me every night before bed. She’s the laziest, cuddliest dog and that’s why we get along so well. She’s also a Taurus, so I think that’s why she doesn’t mind being a home body like me {laughs}.

How do you manage to do YouTube videos, create content, manage ‘Girls Supporting Girls’, do other things, and stay sane?

I think the thing that helps me manage my YouTube, other social platforms, the apparel company, starting new companies, hosting events, collaborating with brands, etc. is my team. I could never do all that I’m doing right now without my team including my editors, management, assistant, MCN, merch team, publicist, youtube contact and my life coach. I like to have a decently small team to help me be efficient and get things done. A team that’s too small or too big can be counter-intuitive. “Work smarter, not harder,” is what I always say.

What advice would you give to someone who’s just trying to find themselves career-wise?

As humans, we’re all going to continue evolving and changing. None of my friends really know what they want to do with themselves career-wise and that’s completely fine. I feel like we all don’t know and we’re just winging it. Some tips I can give to help find what makes you feel passionate and fulfilled are:

1. Create a vision board. Whether it be on Pinterest, a collage on your phone, cut out pictures from magazines, print pictures from the internet, whatever. Creating a vision board of what you’d like your life to look like within the next 5 years helped me so much with narrowing down what I like. I have my vision board hung in my bedroom and it’s also saved as my lock screen on my phone so I’m always reminded what the end goal for me is. You get in life what you have the courage to ask for.

2. Focus on one thing. I find myself overwhelming myself by striving for 5 goals at once. One thing my life coach, Kylee, taught me was to focus on one thing at a time so you can put all of your effort into that project and not half-ass your way through it.

3. Nobody is going to do anything for you unless they get something in return. I learned this the hard way. I’d constantly rely on people to get things done or do me a favour in order to achieve my goals. Nope. Although there are genuine people out there, everyone has their own goals and unless they can get something out of helping you whether it be money, a percentage, a favour in return, they will not do it. Take your goals and matters into your own hands. Do not hand anything off to others because it will simply not get done.

For many people exercising helps to deal with stress, what’s your gym routine like?

I found that I hate going to the gym {laughs}. So things that I do to stay fit are walking my dog, taking the stairs instead of the elevator, small physical changes for my daily routine that I think are more attainable for me to achieve rather than being too lazy and creating excuses to go to the gym everyday. If I’m feeling really shnazzy, I’ll watch my girl, Cassey Ho’s, channel. She does amazing workouts on YouTube! Major boss! #GirlsSupportingGirls

If you could change 3 things in the world and how it works, what would they be?

If I could change 3 things in the world and how it works, I would:

1. Make teleportation an alternative to flying and it would be affordable. Although I love travelling, the hassle of going to the airport constantly for my job can be a burden at times. I would create teleportation from Toronto to LA in seconds and it would be affordable. Oh, and dogs can be teleported too.

2. There will be no poles in parking garages. All of the scratches on my cars are from poles in parking garages. I’d find a way to hold up a building structure without poles so you simply cannot hit them going in and out of your parking spot.

3. I’d allow dogs to go everywhere with you. I mean, LA is pretty lenient on dogs but I’d allow dogs EVERYWHERE! Wouldn’t it make you so happy to see a lil pup at your dentist right before you get your wisdom teeth taken out? Or seeing a doggo playing fetch at all the beaches? I don’t know, I think these are pretty genius ideas.
