Burning Man 2017: Radical Ritual

Every year thousands of artists, designers, bloggers, celebrities, hipsters, and other fans of extreme pastime come to Black Rock Desert in Nevada to find themselves, get a break from the city life, look at art, and well…do drugs and have a good time. Burning Man festival is definitely not for the faint of heart, as you are deprived of civilization and have to survive on your own. The fun part of it is that you can express yourself however you want – there is no dress codes or anything. The only principles are “radical” inclusion, self-reliance, and self-expression, as well as community cooperation, civic responsibility, gifting, decommodification, participation, immediacy, and leaving no trace. This year’s theme is Radical Ritual which is aimed at rethinking the rules and dogmas of the post-modern society.

Art and installations are definitely thought-provoking, but what is even more interesting is the outfits diligently picked by ‘burners’ to impress everyone around and get cool shots in a desert. A-lister celebrities and models, such as Paris Hilton, Cara Delevingne, Sara Sampaio, and many more dress up in faux furs, holographic spandex, glittering jumpsuits, rainbow goggles, neon shorts, knee-length buckled boots, and even bikinis. For some, body paint replaces clothes. Self-expression comes in different ways, and fashion is definitely one of them.
