Sweeping Lengths: The Kimono Trend, and How to Rock It

Last year saw the pyjamas-as-clothes trend in full swing, and this year, the trend is back in a big way. Kimonos are everywhere this season, and are the perfect way to add a colourful spring vibe to your wardrobe. Light and airy, they’re also perfect pieces to wear in the coming warmer months.
The trend is bohemian, yet posh—there’s something glamorous about a silk kimono that makes the wearer feel pampered and chic. But don’t let the intricate prints and bright colours intimidate you; the trend is easy to wear. Add one to a standard jeans and t-shirt combo to completely change the look, as seen here on YouTube personality Ashley Brooke.

And here on fashion blogger Keke Cameron.

The bold print and flowy cut of the kimono instantly elevates traditional cut-off shorts, and acts as the stand-out piece of the look.
A kimono also makes for a chic swimsuit cover-up, as demonstrated by travel blogger and model Jamie Kidd.

Even celebs are wearing the trend, like model Chrissy Teigen, who wears it as a loungewear piece…

and Vanessa Hudgens, who leaves her kimono open and flowing for more of an edgy, bohemian style.

Kendall Jenner also rocked the trend, tying hers at the waist to make it into a dress.

To wear the trend yourself, try a long-line silk kimono, like this tie-at-the-waist one from Zara.
