What could be better than fashion and family? Perhaps fashion deeply rooted in family values? Such is the case for Montreal-based made-to-measure brand, Finezza. The extremely dapper, and incredibly vibrant, menswear label was launched in 2012 by designer and family man Ivan Lehec. Since his initial launch, Lehec has made his business as family and friend-focused as it can be. Think Versace, where the love between the Versace family shines through every stitch and seam. Brands such as this offer far more than just gorgeous garments. They bring to life designs that are made with love. After the showing of his Spring/Summer 2018 collection, we caught up with the Ivan, his wife Emilie and longtime friend Yanic Simard of the Toronto Interior Design Group, to talk about the brand’s beginnings and its future.
You are credited as one of the best made-to-measure brands in Canada. To who, or to what, do you owe your success?
Ivan: It’s family. My grandfather was a tailor in France so it’s been more than 200 years we’ve been in the workshop working on suits.
Emilie: It’s a family passion! It was first a family passion and now it’s a couple passion. And even friendship because he (Yanic) is like my big brother.
Yanic: family and friends which you can really see in this collection. You see the joy and the passion.
Your clothing is very dapper and truly highlights the gentleman aesthetic. Is that something you’ve always done?
Ivan: Yes, yes. I want to show men they can dress well with a lot of colours and prints
You mentioned your father was a tailor in France. Does French fashion influence a lot of what you all are doing today?
Ivan: Of course!
How do you all feel about Toronto fashion as a whole?
Emilie: It’s really eclectic which is fantastic because you can walk on the street and wear whatever you want and no one will judge you. It’s fantastic because we are bringing back the dapper style and today it’s unusual to see men frequently dressed as a gentleman but here people won’t be afraid to dress like that.
You recently launched accessories, is there anything else we should be expecting in the future?
Emilie: Many more sales points and some casual styles.
Could we eventually see you guys venturing into streetwear? That’s very big right now.
Emilie: Yes! Classic, chic streetwear.
Ivan: We will be finding the perfect balance between the elegant look and the street look.
