Dr. Pearlman: It’s never too early to start taking care of your skin and preserving your beauty. While sun block and avoidance are good measures to start while your young, by your late twenties or early thirties it may be an ideal time to start a more proactive protocol. It is an ideal time to consider introducing more active skin care treatments containing vitamin A and perhaps addressing or correcting early signs of aging with neuromodulators like botox, Injectable treatments with Botox and Fillers can by enhancing, correcting and rejuvenating.

These are three important goals of treatment. Dr. Pearlman describes:

1) Enhance your Natural Beauty

Treatments designed to enhance attractive features or facial aspects can be performed at any age in both women and men. Enhancing the eye, cheek, lips or jaw line may help someone feel more confident or reach a beauty standard or goal they have set. The beauty standard may vary globally and with time as fads come and go. Presently, there is a common quest for large lips and buttocks. Because of globalization of beauty, there is a trend toward a globally blended image combining the most attractive features of various ethnicities as can be seen in some of the most followed faces like Kim Kardashian.

Enhancement with contouring is popular with both our male and female patients. While men may seek a contoured jaw line, considered to demonstrate masculinity, women may seek a fuller pout which is considered to demonstrate sexuality. These enhancements we can do with injectable treatments of hyaluronic acid fillers like Restylane, Revanesse, or Juvederm that will last for about 8 to 12 months.

2) Correct Concerns

Sometimes the goal is to address a concern about symmetry, proportion or shape. Whether it is an asymmetric brow or a disproportionately small upper lip, both fillers and botox treatments can be used to help patients overcome concerns.

3) Managing the Aging process

It is always easier to prevent rather than correct- an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Prejuvenation refers to treatments that prevent aging while Rejuvenation involves treatments that reduce or reverse signs of aging. An ideal early preventative treatment involves “baby botox” injections around frown lines, forehead lines and the eye area to prevent the wrinkles from deeply etching into the skin. Botox has been shown to reduce fine lines, pores and reduce improving the appearance of skin. Treatments involve tiny injections at the target sites and results evolve over the first 1 to 2 weeks, lasting about 3 months, and can be safely repeated for continued benefit. Botox treatments are not addictive. In fact, the more you do, the less you need. So if you are doing the treatments regularly, starting in your 30s, you are going to have longer lasting effect.
Later in our aging, we loose facial volume and injectable fillers can provide a rejuvenating treatment through facial contouring. Using these safe natural gels we can achieve a lift, volumization and contouring effect that can offset heaviness under the eye, sagging cheeks and the dreaded jowl.

Approach

Face

I break the face up into thirds: upper (forehead/eyes), midface (teartrough, nose, cheeks), lower (jawline/chin/mouth). The approach and common treatments vary by the section being addressed. The upper face usually demonstrates expression lines like a frown or forehead creases. These are treated with neuromodulators like Botox which relaxes facial muscles to achieve a cosmetic benefit. In the mid-face, there is significant volume loss usually most notably affecting the cheeks. This is addressed with firm facial fillers like Restylane. The lower face ages as the angle of the jaw and chin shrink and the dreaded jowl appears. Fillers are used to restore lost volume and contour providing a lifting affect and reducing the appearance of the jowl.

Neck

There are 3 factors that age the neck. The first one is skin laxity. The skin on the neck and the decolletage is much thinner than on the face on everyone. Most of us apply sunscreen on our face, but we forget about our neck and chest. So it’s often more sun damaged. Skin tightening is achieved with medical grade technology, like skin tightening with radiofrequency or heating devices with sessions repeated weekly. For skin laxity, we have pioneered a technique that combines your own growth factors and regenerative PRP with Hyaluronic Acid and then injected into the skin to improve tone, texture and elasticity. A second aging factor for the neck are rigid muscle bands that can pull down on the jawline. The bands can be treated effectively with Botox in what we refer to as the Nefertiti Lift after the Egyption queen with the beautiful jawline, The last aging factor on the neck is fullness under their chin or the double chin. Refered to as submental fat, the condition is due to genetics, weight gain and aging. We target submental fat with a newly approved medical treatment, Belkyra, a drug made up of naturally occuring chemicals made by your gallbladder to emulsify dietary fat. It breaks down the fat in double chin, and it is usually performed in a series of 3-4 treatments every 4-6 weeks.

Skin

In addition to softening facial wrinkles, improving the contour and your neck, it is important to address concerns and changes in the skin. From acne, to rosacea or redness, to pigment and sun damage and dehydration, there are many options to treat and prevent. A range of home skin care, medical treatments, light and laser therapy we offer a range of options for patients with skin concerns.

Hair

We have designed an integrative hair renewal program that takes an inside-out approach to address the common concern of thinning or shedding hair. We address the common causes of hair loss like hormonal, metabolic, nutritional changes as well have stress. We usually provide a patient with a proprietary scalp lotion for home treatment that you apply daily. Office procedures which work best are PRP, which is injected with highly precise, tiny injections into the scalp through a series of in-clinic treatments performed every 3-4 weeks. Results appear after 6 to 12 weeks and typically 4-6 treatments are required.

Working to enhance and rejuvenate we address a range of concerns evaluating the face, skin, neck and hair loss. Depending on the site and goals, the new paradigm of beauty is to combine skin care, needle based treatments and technology.

From the inside-out, beauty can be enhanced and the aging process can be successfully managed.
